SIXTY-SEVENTH CALENDAR DAY FORTIETH SESSION DAY Senate Chamber Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday, March 14, 1996 The Senate met in regular session at 9:12 a.m., President Boswell presiding. PRESIDENT: I am directed to inform your honorable body that the House has on March 13, 1996, passed the following bill in which the concurrence of the Senate is asked: House File 2477, a bill for an act relating to the funding of, operation of, and appropriation of moneys to agencies, institutions, commissions, departments, and boards responsible for education and cultural programs of this state and making related statutory changes and providing effective date provisions. Senator Kibbie welcomed the Irish Dancers who were present in the Senate gallery. Senator Kibbie introduced John Browne T.D. and his wife, Nancy, from Carlow in Ireland, a Convener of the Fine Gael Party and group leader of legislation for justice and health. Mr. Browne address the Senate with thanks for the wonderful reception given to generations of Irish people by the United States and Iowa. UNFINISHED BUSINESS (Deferred March 6, 1996) Senate File 2265 The Senate resumed consideration of Senate File 2265, a bill for an act relating to the required participation of parents of minor children in a seminar prior to the granting of a dissolution of marriage decree and certain contested modification of custody orders, deferred March 6, 1996. Senator Bartz called up the motion to reconsider the vote by which amendment S-5160 to Senate File 2265 was adopted by the Senate on March 6, 1996, filed by him on March 7, 1996, found on page 687 of the Senate Journal and moved its adoption. The motion prevailed by a voice vote and amendment S-5160 by Senators Hammond and Halvorson to strike everything after the enacting clause and to the title page of the bill, was taken up for reconsideration. Senator Neuhauser offered amendment S-5318 filed by Senators Neuhauser and Iverson on March 12, 1996, to pages 1, 6 and the title page of the bill and moved its adoption. Senate Resolution 106 On motion of Senator Horn, Senate Resolution 106, a senate resolution of congratulations and support for the Iowa State Cyclones Mens Basketball Team and the Iowa Hawkeyes Womens and Mens Basketball Teams, was taken up for consideration.
