SPECIAL PRESENTATION

Bell of Jasper presented to the House, Stephen S.F. Chen
Representative to the United States from China; Sheng Sung Yang,
Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in
China; and Hank Liu, aid to Director General Yang from Taipei.
Ambassador Chen addressed the House briefly regarding trade
policies and the importance of friendship and support of the United
States.

The House rose and expressed its welcome.


SPECIAL PRESENTATION

Murphy of Dubuque presented to the House, Pavel Milyotin, an
exchange student from Kyrgyztan of the Russian Federation. He is
currently a senior at Dubuque High School.

ADOPTION OF HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 105

Speaker pro tempore Sukup called up for consideration House
Concurrent Resolution 105, a concurrent resolution demanding the
Iowa Housing Corporation return state moneys to the Iowa Finance
Authority and requesting the Iowa Finance Authority to honor
contractual obligations with the Iowa Housing Corporation, and
moved its adoption.

The motion prevailed and the resolution was adopted.

CONSIDERATION OF BILLS

House File 2136, a bill for an act relating to nonsubstantive Code
corrections, was taken up for consideration.

Myers of Johnson offered the following amendment H-8018 filed by
the committee on judiciary and moved its adoption:

2 1. Page 5, by striking lines 9 through 30.
3 2. Page 10, line 16, by striking the words
4 "university of Iowa and" and inserting the following:

the United States maintain its commitment to clean air and the ethanol industry, by
maintaining the oxygenate requirement in the federal Clean Air Act that promotes the
use of ethanol in reformulated gasoline and that Congress and the United States
Environmental Protection Agency cooperate in order to implement effective standards.
