The House met pursuant to adjournment at 9:33 a.m., Cormack of
Webster in the chair.

Prayer was offered by the Honorable Dwayne Alons, state
representative from Sioux County.

The Journal of Thursday, January 20, 2000 was approved.

INTRODUCTION OF BILLS

House File 2064, by Gipp and Warnstadt, a bill for an act relating
to including certain school district bond issues under the Iowa
economic development bond bank program.

Read first time and referred to committee on state government.

House File 2065, by Dix, a bill for an act providing for the
payment of court-appointed interpreters for the deaf and hard-of-
hearing.

Read first time and referred to committee on judiciary.

House File 2066, by Jager, a bill for an act providing that the
course for drinking drivers shall be taught by community colleges and
licensed substance abuse programs, and making related changes.

Read first time and referred to committee on transportation.

House File 2067, by Jenkins, a bill for an act providing an
automatic excuse from jury duty for older persons.

Read first time and referred to committee on judiciary.

House File 2068, by Martin and Connors, a bill for an act relating
to a midwest interstate passenger rail compact.

Read first time and referred to committee on state government.

House File 2069, by Davis, a bill for an act providing retirement
benefits to local jailers as a member of a protection occupation under
the Iowa public employees' retirement system.

Read first time and referred to committee on state government.

House File 2070, by Davis, Martin, and Barry, a bill for an act
relating to domestic abuse between persons in a dating relationship
and providing penalties.

Read first time and referred to committee on judiciary.

MESSAGE FROM THE SENATE

The following message was received from the Senate:

Mr. Speaker: I am directed to inform your honorable body that the Senate has on
January 20, 2000, passed the following bill in which the concurrence of the Senate was
asked:

House File 2059, a bill for an act making an appropriation to the commission of
veterans affairs for a contribution toward the construction of a national World War II
memorial.

On motion by Johnson of Osceola the House adjourned at 9:35
