1 1 Section 1. Section 97B.49B, subsection 1, paragraph d,
1 2 Code 1999, is amended by adding the following new
1 3 subparagraph:
1 4 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH. (7) A jailer, certified as completing
1 5 jailer training pursuant to chapter 80B, employed by a county
1 6 or city as a jailer. For purposes of this subparagraph,
1 7 service as a jailer prior to July 1, 2000, shall not be
1 8 included in computing the jailer's eligible service.
1 9 EXPLANATION
1 10 This bill provides that a person employed as a jailer by a
1 11 county or city and who has received a certificate for
1 12 completing jailer training through the Iowa law enforcement
1 13 academy shall be included, and receive benefits as, a member
1 14 of a protection occupation within the Iowa public employees'
1 15 retirement system. Service as a jailer prior to July 1, 2000,
1 16 shall not be considered service as a protection occupation for
1 17 purposes of computing the person's retirement benefit.
