1 1 Section 1. Section 607A.5, Code 1999, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 607A.5 AUTOMATIC EXCUSE FROM JURY SERVICE.
1 4 A person shall be excused from jury service if the person
1 5 submits written documentation verifying, to the court's
1 6 satisfaction, that the person is solely responsible for the
1 7 daily care of a person with a permanent disability living in
1 8 the person's household and that the performance of juror
1 9 service would cause substantial risk of injury to the health
1 10 of the person with a disability, that the person is age
1 11 seventy or older, or that the person is the mother of a
1 12 breastfed child and is responsible for the daily care of the
1 13 child. However, if the person is regularly employed at a
1 14 location other than the person's household, the person shall
1 15 not be excused under this section.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill provides that a person age 70 or older shall be
1 18 automatically excused from jury duty upon submission of
1 19 written documentation to the court verifying the person's age.
