JULIUS A. NELSON

MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Julius A. Nelson, begs leave to submit the following:

Julius A. Nelson was born of Danish parents in Cass County, Iowa, on January 14, 1872, and died at the Atlantic Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa, on July 24, 1955, at the age of 83 years.

Residing in Cass and adjoining Audubon County, Mr. Nelson received his early education in the rural schools and was a graduate of a local business college and also had several terms of normal training.

On January 1, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Brown, also a resident of Cass County, and to this union three children were born.

During his lifetime of residing in Cass County, he was the Vice President of the Farmers Savings Bank of Atlantic, Iowa, President of the local Atlantic Building and Supply Company, served on the Cass County Board of Trustees and was Treasurer of the Atlantic School Board. Mr. Nelson was elected Senator from the eighteenth district in 1918.

Survivors are Mrs. Nelson, one daughter, Mrs. Robert Martin of Red Oak, Iowa, two sons, James D. Nelson and Gail B. Nelson of Atlantic, Iowa.

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Fifty-seventh General Assembly: That in the passing of the Honorable Julius A. Nelson, the state has lost a valuable, loyal and honorable citizen and one who has contributed unselfishly to his country, state and nation.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the Senate, and that the Secretary of the Senate be instructed to forward enrolled copies to the members of his family.
