In retail shoe business for 38 years but now retired. Married Hilda Stieren November 25, 1943. Two children, Magdalen Ann and Joseph John. Severely injured in the St. Mihiel salient September 14, 1918, and received military decoration "The Order of the Purple Heart." Attended Iowa State College for vocational training. Served as Iowa department commander, Disabled American Veterans in 1934, and as National Committeeman; Iowa legislator from 1943 to 1959, eight years in house and eight years in senate. Appointed by Governor Loveless to Parole Board 1957-1963. Catholic. Note: Mr. Utzig died May 9, 1967. Mr. Raymond J. Miller was elected in a special election and sworn in May 31, 1967, to fill the unexpired term of Representative Utzig.
