Born in Canada March 3, 1840. He settled in what is now Powersville, Iowa. Mr. Powers, was a clean-cut straight forward man. held in high esteem by all who knew him. He served two terms as state representative, Twenty-ninth, Thirtieth and Thirty-first General Assemblies, 1902-06, from the eighty-fifth district of Iowa. In 1898, he was appointed by the governor of Iowa as a member of the National Farmer's Congress, and held many positions of trust in his home county. He was very successful in this business career. He had one of the finest equipped stock farms in the state of Iowa. He organized the Powers Manufacturing Company of Waterloo, Iowa. Mr. Powers married Ophelia Cramer March 6, 1869 in Vienna, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
