Senator from the Fourth District, composed of Lucas and Wayne counties, was born in Holmes county, Ohio, October 24, 1849. He was educated in the public schools of his native county, and the Colleges of Millersburg and Hayesville, Ohio. Read medicine at Brooklyn, Iowa. Commenced first course of medical lectures at Rush College, Chicago. The great fire of 1871 that destroyed the college, as well as the greater part of Chicago, caused him to move, in order to continue his course, to Ann Arbor, Michigan. The following year he returned to Rush and graduated. The following summer located at Humeston, Iowa, where he has continued in the practice ever since. Is connected with other business besides practice of medicine. Is president of Home State Bank. Also has a large stock interest, having on his farms a herd of over 200 head of registered Angus cattle. Served as a member of the House of Representatives during the Nineteenth, Thirtieth and Thirty-first General Assemblies. Elected Senator in 1908. A Republican in politics.
