Senator from the Forty-eighth district, composed of the counties of Carroll, Greene and Sac, was born at Camanche, Clinton county, Iowa, October 1, 1855, of German parentage. In 1862 the family moved to Lyons, Iowa. Was educated in the common and high schools of Lyons, Was married May 20, 1879to Miss Catherine Shelley, who died in 1912, leaving two sons and a daughter. Removed to Odebolt, Sac county, in 1879, and engaged in the hardware business, with which he is still connected. Was elected representative of the Sixtieth district (Sac county) in 1901. and served in the house of the twenty-ninth, thirtieth and thirty-first general assemblies and was elected to the senate November 6, 1906, and has served as senator in the thirty-second, thirty-second extra, thirty-third and thirty-fourth general assemblies. A republican in politics.
