Senator from the Forty-sixth district, composed of the counties of Cherokee, Ida and Plymouth. Son of Alanson and Mary Ann (Wright) Coburn, born of New England ancestry, at Belvidere, Illinois, May 12, 1856. His Coburn ancestor, who served in King Philips' war, came to America in 1635, settled at Ipswich, thence to Dracut, Mass. Senator Coburn is a descendant from the same family as Governor Abner Coburn, Maine's Civil War governor. He began farming in 1877 on the Elmhurst farm at Marcus, Iowa, was married on November 7, 1879, to Mary Ann Pettengill Coburn, and has five children. He is a member of the Marcus Commercial Club, a Presbyterian, is past master of Little Sioux Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 521, T.S. Parvin Consistory No. 5 of Sioux City, representative in the twenty-eighth, twenty-ninth, thirtieth, thirty-first, and senator in the thirty-seventh and thirty-eighth general assemblies of Iowa. A republican in politics.
