TWENTY-NINTH CALENDAR DAY SEVENTEENTH SESSION DAY Senate Chamber Des Moines, Iowa, Monday, February 10, 1997 The Senate met in regular session at 1:03 p.m., President Kramer presiding. Prayer was offered by the Reverend Phillip Olson, pastor of the Ridgeway Lutheran Parish, Ridgeway, Iowa. The Journal of Thursday, February 6, 1997, was approved. HOUSE MESSAGE RECEIVED AND CONSIDERED The following message was received from the Chief Clerk of the House: MADAM. PRESIDENT: I am directed to inform your honorable body that the House has on January 6, 1997, passed the following bill in which the concurrence of the Senate is asked: House File 108, a bill for an act relating to occupational hearing loss, concerning the definitions, apportionment of hearing loss, and measurement of hearing loss. This bill was read first time and passed on file. LEAVE OF ABSENCE Leave of absence was granted as follows: Senator Hedge for the week on request of Senator Iverson. 29th Day MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1997 235 APPENDIX BILL SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR A communication was received announcing that on February 10, 1997, the governor approved and transmitted to the secretary of state the following bill: SENATE FILE 35, a bill for an act eliminating the inheritance tax on property passing to parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and other lineal ascendants, children including legally adopted children and biological children entitled to inherit under the laws of this state, stepchildren, and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other lineal descendants of the decedent and providing an applicability date provision. COMMITTEE REPORTS COMMERCE Final Bill Action: SENATE FILE 61, a bill for an act relating to the membership of a joint 911 service board. Recommendation: DO PASS. Recommendation: DO PASS. Final Vote: Ayes, 13: Jensen, Schuerer, Deluhery, Bartz, Douglas, Flynn, Gronstal, Hansen, King, Lundby, McCoy, Redfern and Rife. Nays, none. SSB 106 Commerce Relating to licensing and certification of certain occupations relating to real estate, by providing for appraiser certification, discipline of brokers and salespersons, and related matters, and making a penalty applicable.. SSB 107 Commerce Amending the uniform securities Act relating to the registration of securities and the registration of broker-dealers and agents, establishing fees, and providing an effective date. SSB 108 Commerce Relating to funds held by insurance companies and providing an effective date. 29th Day MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1997 237 SSB 109 Natural Resources and Environment Authorizing the issuance of lifetime hunting licenses for residents who are sixty-five years of age or older. SSB 48.1 Transportation Relating to state department of transportation operations, including regulating hazardous materials transport, regulating motor vehicle dealers, eliminating requirements that the department adopt administrative rules in certain instances, and establishing, making applicable, or enhancing penalties. One hundred eleven residents of Clay County favoring legislation to increase by two cents per can the bottle deposit for redemption centers.
