Born Jan. 22, 1946, in New Rockford, N.D., son of Vernon E. and Lucille M. Running. Graduated from Cashton High School, Cashton, Wise, 1964. B.S., University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, 1973. Interned in urban-regional planning, Minneapolis, Minn. Served in U.S. Navy, 1966-68. Vietnam veteran. Married Joan A. Meighan of Cedar Rapids in 1968. Children: Elizabeth, Stefanie and Kirsten. Former executive board member and organizational representative for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 3-P. Past chairman for Iowa 2nd District Committee on Political Education. Field representative/labor liaison for former U.S. Congressman Mike Blouin. Employed as a quality assurance technologist for Wilson Foods Corp. Member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Iowa Farm-Labor Coalition, Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. First term.
