Ankeny District 61 Democrat Born in Boone July 18, 1938, son of Virgil and Bessie Byerly. Graduated Boone High School 1956 and Boone Jr. College 1958. B.A. Simpson College 1960. Married Elna Reedholm of Boone 1959. Two daughters and two sons. Teacher and coach Gilbert, Iowa, 1961-67. Free lance writer. Research Fellowship, M.S. and Ph.D., Iowa State University 1967-70. Administrator Des Moines Area Community College. Selected to Community College Congressional internship experience in Washington, D.C. Worked out of Congressman Neal Smith's office 1971. Testified before U.S. Senate Sub-Committee 1972. Member Methodist Church, Phi Delta Kappa, ISEA, NEA, Polk County Farm Bureau, Masons, Ankeny Jaycees, Des Moines Manpower Planning Council, Des Moines Title I—ESEA Committee. First term.
