MAX E. RENO

Max E. Reno was born on April 26, 1926, in rural Wapello County, Iowa, to Sherman E. and Marjorie E. Heady Reno. He passed away on July 25, 2004, at the age of seventy-eight. He is survived by three sons, Stephen and his wife Joanna of Ankeny, Iowa, Marcus of St. Petersburg, Florida, and R. William of Phoenix, Arizona; a son-in- law, Stephen Shriver of Bonaparte, Iowa; and seven grandchildren.

Reno was educated in the Bloomfield public schools and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1944. He attended Bloomfield Junior College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He married Francis Hartzler in 1948.

Reno was an auctioneer, insurance agent, and real estate broker. He had owned and operated a livestock sale barn and a feed service in Bonaparte and was a member of both the Iowa Auctioneer and National Auctioneer Associations. In 1964, Reno was elected to the Iowa Senate, where he served one term.

Reno was active in his community. He was a member of the Bonaparte Baptist Church, Lions Club, American Legion Post 563, and Lodge #73 AF & AM; the Keosauqua VFW; the Farmington Rod and Gun Club; and the KAABA Shrine. He was on the board of directors for the Indian Hills Community College Foundation. He was a former mayor of Bonaparte, Iowa.

Reno was a Van Buren County Democrat. He served in the Senate from 1965–1968 during the 61st and 62nd General Assemblies.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE EIGHTY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF IOWA: That in the passing of the Honorable Max E. Reno, the State has lost an honored citizen and faithful and useful public servant, and that the Senate by this resolution expresses its appreciation of his service to the State and tenders its sympathy and kindest regards to the members of his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the Senate and that the Secretary of the Senate be instructed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
