B.A., 1946, State University of Iowa; Juris Doctor degree, 1948, with distinction, College of Law of State University of Iowa. Served in U.S. Army Air Corps, Feb. 1943 to Nov. 1945, pilot, B-24, 13th Air Force, Southwest Pacific Theatre. Married Carolyn Woods and they have three daughters, Kathryn A., Martha B., and Elizabeth M. Member of Episcopalian Church, Elks, Masons, V.F.W., American Legion, Izaak Walton League, Farm Bureau, Louisa County, Iowa State and American Bar Associations; Sigma Nu and Phi Delta Phi fraternities; County Attorney, Louisa County, 1953-1957; Chairman Wapello Planning and Zoning Commission, 1966. Chairman, Louisa County Republican Central Committee, 1960-63; past president Wapello Chamber of Commerce and Wapello Development Corp.; vice-president, Iowa County Attorneys Association, 1956; past president, Louisa County Bar Association. Member of law firm of Hicklin and Matthews, Wapello. Elected to first term.
