FRED L. WRIGHT

Mr. Speaker: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character, and public service of the late Honorable Fred L. Wright, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Fred L. Wright was born in Dallas County, Iowa on December 24, 1906, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Wright.

Mr. Wright graduated from Earlham High School and from Des Moines University’s School of Pharmacy in 1929. He married Eunice Loynachan on December 24, 1931 at Knoxville, Iowa. He moved to Ankeny, Iowa where he was employed as a pharmacist, and was Mayor of Ankeny from 1934 to 1940. He then moved to Vinton, Iowa where he was owner and operator of Wright Pharmacy from 1940 to 1974.

Mr. Wright was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 62 in Vinton, a 32nd degree Mason, member of Elkahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids, charter member of Shrine Chanters, Arabian Horse Patrol, Vinton Development Corporation, member of Lion’s Club, Honorary 4 H member, Vinton Chamber of Commerce, Iowa State Pharmaceutical Association, Farm Bureau, Izaak Walton League, Benton County Fish and Game Club, American Animal Health and Pharmaceutical Association, National Association of Retail Druggists, Vice President of the League of Municipalities of the State of Iowa, member of county central committee, and the Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Wright, a Benton County Republican, was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives, and served one term in the Sixtieth General Assembly.

Mr. Wright died December 27, 1979, and is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Sherry McLaughlin, LaPorte City, Iowa; Mrs. Sandra Boyer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Mrs. Sheila Demmel, Van Horne, Iowa.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-ninth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Fred L. Wright, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this Resolution would express its appreciation of his service.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
