MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable LeRoy Getting, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

LeRoy Getting was born at Sanborn, Iowa, June 29, 1902, to Charles and Rose Koppen Getting. Mr. Getting passed away September 1, 1982, at the Primghar hospital.

Mr. Getting was educated at the Sanborn Public School. While engaged in farming and extensive livestock feeding, he served as chairman of a number of state and national livestock organizations. He served as director of Iowa Farm Bureau and affiliated companies from 1946 to 1958. He also was a member of the Research Advisory Committee to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the board of Westminister Fellowship of Higher Learning of the three state colleges and the board of trustees, Buena Vista College, Storm Lake.

He was active in community affairs and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Abu Bekr Temple. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church.

Senator Getting served as a member of the 58th, 59th, and 60th General Assemblies (1959-1963).

He was survived by his wife, the former Margaret Blahauvietz, who since then, has also passed away. Other survivors include two sons, Daryle of West Des Moines and Donald from Sanborn; a daughter, Janice from River Falls, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventieth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable LeRoy Getting, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and that the Senate, by this resolution, expresses its appreciation of his service to his community, state and nation and tenders its sympathy and kindest regards to members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be entered into the Journal of the Senate and that the Secretary of the Senate be instructed to forward an enrolled copy to each member of Mr. Getting’s family.
