HERMAN M. KNUDSON

MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Herman M. Knudson, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Herman M. Knudson was born on a farm in Mitchell County, July 25, 1887, to Ole and Carrie Knudson. Mr. Knudson passed away October 13, 1977, in Glendale, California.

Mr. Knudson was educated in the consolidated schools at Orchard and the Capital City Commercial College, Des Moines. In 1915, he married Jesse Hold of Marshalltown, Iowa, and was the father of three sons, Ted, Dick and Bob.

He served as president of the Associated Advertising Clubs of Iowa, Society of Iowa Florists, Iowa State Horticultural Society and governor of the Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis clubs.

Mr. Knudson was owner and operator of Kemble’s greenhouses in Mason City and New Hampton, Iowa, and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and president of the Klipto Loose Leaf Company for fifteen years.

He was active in community affairs and was a member of the Masonic, Oddfellows and Elks fraternities, Y.M.C.A. and Congregational church.

Senator Knudson served as a member of the Iowa House in the 46th, 48th, 49th and 50th General Assemblies (1935-1943), and in the Iowa Senate in the 51st, 52nd, 53rd, 54th, 55th and 56th General Assemblies (1945-1955).

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventieth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Herman M. Knudson, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and that the Senate, by this resolution, expresses its appreciation of his service to his community, state and nation and tenders its sympathy and kindest regards to members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be entered into the Journal of the Senate and that the Secretary of the Senate be instructed to forward an enrolled copy to each member of Mr. Knudson’s family.
