Jefferson. Republican 48th Senatorial District Carroll, Greene and Sac Counties. Born on a farm in Ida county, 1907, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthon H. Benson. Completed aeronautic engineering course at Iowa State College. For two years a designing and standards engineer with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Later he became a farm owner and manager, specializing in corn improvement and cattle feeding on a Greene county farm established by members of his family before the Civil War. Received the Iowa Master Corn Growers Award and Distinguished Community Service Award. Served as chairman of National Farm Youth Committee for two years; president of Jefferson Junior Chamber of Commerce; organization member of Greene County Cattle Feeders, Conservation and R.E.A.organizations. Married Helen Custer in 1928; father of one son. Served as leader in 4-H work, Northwest Iowa Christian young peoples organizations, and as president of his local independent school board. Member of the Jefferson Country Club, Rotary Club and Masonic lodge. Serving first term in Senate.
