Attended Northern Indiana normal school for three years at Valparaiso, Indiana. Married Gertrude Helen Giesecke of St. Louis in 1913 and has two sons, John, 20, attending Iowa State college; Henry, 17, graduate of Blairstown high school; and twin daughters, Marie and Emma, 14, attending Blairstown high school. Has engaged in farming since 1900. Became a master farmer in 1930. Serving first term in senate. A democrat.
