SAM D. GOETSCH
MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee, appointed to prepare suitable resolutions commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Sam D. Goetsch of Decorah, Iowa, begs leave to submit the following:
Sam D. Goetsch was born in Sheboygan County, Random Lake, Wisconsin on November 14, 1879, of German parentage. At the age of thirteen years, he moved to Moore County, Minnesota with his parents and he was educated in the local schools of Wisconsin and Minnesota. He was married to Hannah Bush of Moore County, Minnesota, and they reared a family of eight children consisting of six girls and two boys. He moved to Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, in 1924 and resided there until his death on the 26th day of June, 1954. His main occupations were that of farming, the operation of a real estate business and the operation of a general mercantile business in his home community. He had a wide variety of interests and actively participated in many community activities and affairs.
Senator Goetsch was elected to the State Senate in 1934 as a member of the Democratic party. He served as a member of the State Senate for one term.
Senator Goetsch was a man of character, noted for his friendliness and for his host of loyal friends. He has often been remembered as a worthy advocate of the welfare of the common man.
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly: That in the passing of the Honorable Sam D. Goetsch, the state has lost a valuable and honorable citizen and one who contributed unselfish service to the State of Iowa.
Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread on the Journal of the Senate, and that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the members of the family of the deceased.
