MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee, appointed to prepare suitable resolutions commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable M. X. Geske of McGregor, Iowa, begs leave to submit the following:

M. X. Geske was born in McGregor, Clayton County, Iowa, on the first day of November, 1870. He died October 26, 1951, at the age of 80 years. Mr. Geske was graduated from McGregor High School in 1889 and taught school as a rural school teacher in 1890 and 1891 in Allamakee County, thereafter he taught high school in Windon, Minnesota and Lake Crystal, Minnesota. In 1898 to 1899, he read law in the office of D. D. Murphy at Elkader, Iowa and became associated in 1901 and 1902. He practiced law in McGregor from that time until his death. He was County Attorney of Clayton County from 1904 to 1908.

Mr. Geske had a wide variety of interests and served as Mayor of McGregor, a member of the Board of Education and a bank director of the local bank. He served as President of the Clayton County Bar Association for a number of years. Mr. Geske belonged to Masonic lodge, Consistory and Shrine. He was elected to the State Senate from Clayton County and served faithfully two terms from 1932 to 1940.

Mr. Geske was a man who had many varied and respected interests in his home community. He was always vitally interested in the importance of agricultural pursuits to the welfare of the State of Iowa and his ability in his many activities made him a valuable asset to his community and state.

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly: That in the passing of the Honorable M. X. Geske, the state has lost a valuable and honorable citizen and one who contributed unselfish service to the State of Iowa.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread on the Journal of the Senate, and that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the members of the family of the deceased.
