HENRY B. OWENS

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Henry B. Owens, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Henry B. Owens was born on March 9, 1874, at Missouri Valley, Iowa. He was the son of Elias and Catherine Owens, early settlers of Harrison County. He passed away at his home in Logan, Iowa, August 16, 1951, at the age of 77 years.

He received his education in the rural schools of Harrison County and at Woodbine Normal School, Woodbine, Iowa.

On August 12, 1920, Mr. Owens married Audrey Cronk of Logan, who survives him. Also surviving is one daughter, Mary Catherine Moritz.

Mr. Owens spent his entire life in and around Harrison County. He was a rural school teacher, farmer, bank cashier, and farm loan appraiser for the New York Life Insurance Company.

He also served two terms as Harrison County recorder and three terms as Harrison County auditor.

Mr. Owens was a member of the Forty-first General Assembly.

He was a member of the Masons and Odd Fellows, and in politics was a Republican.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Henry B. Owens, the state has lost a valuable and honored citizen.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
