Buchanan County
Senator from the thirty-third district, including Buchanan and Delaware counties. He was born on a farm in that county on August 17, 1875. Received his education in the rural and graded schools of the county, and at Lenox college, Hopkinton, Iowa. He has spent his entire life on a farm. Was married on June 1, 1904, to Miss Mabel L. Thompson of Buchanan county. To them were born two children, John W. and Ruth Gertrude. Has held office of township trustee, assessor, bank director and numerous other offices. Served on local school board twenty-five years. Member of Odd Fellows, Masonic and M.W.A. lodges. Presbyterian in religion. Republican in politics. Elected representative in 1920. Re-elected in 1922. Elected senator in 1924,
