LEMERTON E. CRIST was born on a farm in Clarke County, Iowa, July 7, 1872, and died in Osceola May 1, 1934. He attended country public school, taught school, studied law in the office of William B. Tallman of Osceola, was admitted to the bar in 1894 and began practice in Osceola. From 1898 until 1908 he was a partner of Mr. Tallman. For four years he was city attorney of Osceola, and for four years was mayor. In 1910 he was elected representative and served in the Thirty-fourth General Assembly. In 1912 he was elected senator from the Clarke-Warren district, and served in the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth general assemblies. He was a Republican in politics, and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was regarded as an able lawyer and a faithful and efficient public officer.
