Representative from Mitchell county. Born at St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa, of Scotch descent. He has continued to live in this vicinity since his birth and was educated in the St. Ansgar public schools; also the St. Ansgar Seminary and Institute. Has followed various occupations since early manhood. Began as a farmer and stock buyer and in 1895 engaged in the lumber and coal business, in which he is still engaged; also in the grain business. Was married to Mamie S. Brown in 1894, has two daughters and one son. Has served as mayor, alderman, township trustee and was a member of the board of supervisors for two terms, resigning this to accept the office of Representative. Elected Representative in 1903 and re-elected in 1906, serving during the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies.
