Representative from Woodbury county, was born in the north of Ireland, of Scotch parents, in 1848. Came to America in 1849, lived in Montgomery county, New York, until 1853, when he moved to Whiteside county, Illinois. Attended a country school until he was fifteen years old. Then went to the Methodist College at Mount Morris, Illinois, after which he took a business course at the Bryant & Stratton College in Chicago. Came to Iowa in 1881 and located on a farm, where he still lives, and is engaged in farming and banking. Was a member of the board of supervisors of Woodbury county in 1887-1890. Elected Representative in 1903 and re-elected in 1906. Served during the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies.
