Came to America in 1849, lived in Montgomery county, New York, until 1853, when he moved to Whiteside county, Illinois. Attended a country school until he was fifteen years old. Then went to the Methodist College at Mount Morris, Illinois, after which he took a business course at the Bryant & Stratton College in Chicago. Came to Iowa in 1881 and located on a farm, where he still lives, and is engaged in farming and banking. Was a member of the board of supervisors of Woodbury county in 1887-1890. Elected Representative in 1903 and re-elected in 1906. Served during the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second General Assemblies. A Republican in politics.
