HONORABLE WILLIAM LARRABEE, JR.

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare memorial resolutions commemorating the life and services of the Honorable William Larrabee, Jr., a member of the House of Representatives in the twenty-ninth, thirty-third, thirty-fourth and thirty-fifth General Assemblies of Iowa, and who passed away on April 2, 1933, beg leave to submit the following:

William Larrabee, Jr., was born near Clermont, Iowa, December 11, 1870. He was educated in the public schools of Clermont. He was a graduate of the Law department of the State University, where he was chosen to be a member of the Bahama Expedition, sent out by the University in 1893 for scientific research. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War, acting as Commissary of Subsistence of Volunteers.

He was united in marriage to Lillian Ingles, and to them was born six children, one son dying in infancy. The others are Mrs. James McElvin, of Chicago, William Larrabee 3rd, of Los Angeles, and Helen Augusta, Janet and James, at home.

Mr. Larrabee was an active member in his church and fraternal organizations. The Larrabee family presented the town of Clermont with a grade school, which, after the death of the senior Larrabee, once Governor of the State of Iowa, and for years Senator from his district, was finished by his son, William Larrabee, Jr. The school is a shining example of the generosity and public spiritedness of the Larrabee family.

Mr. Larrabee was indeed a man of great wisdom and strength, and his life shall ever be a bright star to those who seek for greatness in the State he loved, and honored with his services. His death has taken from us one of the outstanding men in the history of Iowa.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Forty-fifth General Assembly of the State of Iowa, That the foregoing memorial be adopted in appreciation of the life and services of the Honorable William Larrabee, Jr.

Be It Further Resolved, That these resolutions be spread upon the Journal of the House and the Chief Clerk be directed to send an enrolled copy to each of the members of the family of the deceased.

H. B. HOUGH,

OVE D. ROE,

OTTO FUELLING,

Committee.

Unanimously adopted April 11, 1933.
