HONORABLE P. W. CONLEY

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee appointed to prepare resolutions commemorating the life, character and public services of the Honorable P. W. Conley, of Clayton County, beg leave to submit the following report:

P. W. Conley was born near Elkport, Iowa, in 1866. During his early life he taught in the public schools, later entering the farming business, which occupation he continued until the time of his death on January 8, 1931.

He was united in marriage in 1900 to Miss Esther M. Downey, who passed away in June, 1936. Five children, Harold, Raymond, John, Daniel, and Lucille, all of Elkport, Iowa, mourn the death of their beloved father. One daughter, Mary Willenbring died on October 2, 1936. In 1898, Mr. Conley was elected to represent Clayton County in the state legislature, and served in the 27th and 28th sessions of the General Assembly.

He took an active interest in community affairs, and stood high in the confidence and esteem of his associates. He was at all times a perfect gentleman, genial, kindhearted, and devoted to his family and his friends.

Therefore Be It Resolved, That in the passing of the Honorable P. W. Conley, the state has lost a valuable and honored citizen, and the House would tender by this resolution, its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family in their sorrow, and

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be instructed to send an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
