Representative Elwood Macy View All Years
HON. ELWOOD MACEY
Elwood Macey was born in Indiana in 1836 and came to Iowa in 1861, located in Springdale, Cedar county in 1872 where be farmed under the usual primitive conditions.
Was elected to the House of Representatives in the fall of 1876 and served among those who set precedents instead of following them.
If there is one reason more than any other why Iowa stands preeminent among the sisterhood of states it is not her matchless soil and climate, but it is to be found in the character of those who served her in official capacity during those the formative days of her history.
Later he moved to Mt. Vernon and took his part in the affairs of that city, was elected mayor twice and retired from the office with the satisfaction to be derived from a sense of duty well done.
He passed this life at his home in Mt. Vernon on February 20, 1923. He leaves two daughters to mourn his loss and he followed to the great beyond with the good wishes and respect of the entire community.
In this the time of retrospection clear,
We backward look for those whom we have known,
Who walked with us one half the bitter year,
Then turned to walk alone.
Beseeching grace on those who’ve passed us by,
May our bereavement seem their sweet relief.
May God himself send solace from on high
To grant their Spirits peace.
THOS. WOLFE,
WM. GILMORE,
E. A. GRIMWOOD,
Committee.
Adopted April 12, 1923.
