Born March 28, 1844 in New York. As a young boy he came to this county settling at Adel, and there grew to manhood. When but 17 years of age he enlisted in Co. A., 23rd Regiment and served his country throughout the war of the rebellion. He was educated at the Oskaloosa college and finished his college work at Valparaiso Indiana. He came to this part of the county in his early manhood years settling on the farm southeast of the city. He took a prominent part in the politics of the county in his younger years and was a representative of Dallas county in the state legislature. He has been a member of the Masonic fraternity. He is a member of the Methodist Church.
