Mortimer Phillips Bainbridge

Born November 10, 1808, at Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. Mr. Bainbridge was a lawyer. He married Elizabeth Mason Hooe, July 22, 1839, at Fort Snelling Unorganized Territory, Minnesota. In the 1840 census, Bainbridge and a household of 5 lived in Dubuque County. In November 1840, Bainbridge was chosen president of the Iowa Territorial Council and represented Dubuque County in the Territorial Legislative Assembly in 1840 and 1841. He was a Whig until the party dissolved and then joined the Democratic party. By 1850, the family had moved to King George County, Virgina, his wife’s native state, and he is a farmer. Bainbridge died July 13, 1857, in King George County, Virginia.
