Born in North Carolina, Guilford County on October 23, 1810, but was reared in Wayne County, Indiana and came to English River Township near Richmond in July, 1839. Mr. Bunker was a farmer and miller by profession. A man of sound judgment and kind heart, helpful, charitable, a model citizen. Such men have to serve, and it was in the natural order of things that he should be called to fill posts of public duty and represent the people, as he did most acceptably, as county commissioner in 1840; and in the fifth territorial legislature where he presented the petition of Washington and Crawfordsville for the repeal of the "Black Laws", and in the state legislature 3d and 4th general assemblies; and also in the constitutional convention in 1857. He was a man of influence in all those bodies. On June 23, 1833, he married Marium Hunt of North Carolina. Mr. Bunker was a Spiritualist in religion, and was in every way a man of rare excellence of character.
