Graduated Laurens High School, 1933. B.A., University of Iowa 1937, J.D., University of Iowa 1939. Practiced law Belmond, Iowa, 1939-1943. U. S. Army 1943-1945. Practiced law Laurens, Iowa, 1946 to present. Married Mardell Sell of Gowrie, Iowa, 1939. Three children: Don Jr., Ann, Mary. County attorney Pocahontas County 1951-1954. Affiliated with Laurens school board 1947-1961, as secretary, member of board, president. Member Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge, Methodist Church. Elected to senate at special election May 1, 1961, and seated May 4. Re-elected November 6, 1962.
