Born at Centerville, Indiana, July 22, 1843. He was not very old when his parents moved to Mercer County, Illinois, but while living there he attended school. It was in 1850 he came to Appanoose county, and there he completed the common school course, then went to the Troy Academy in Davis County. He married Martha Powell in Appanoose County, Iowa, on January 28, 1863. Upon his return from the Army he spent some time in school at Moravia, Iowa, returned to Troy Academy and then went to California, where he engaged in teaching and the study of medicine. He returned east and took a medical course of study in the E. M. Institute at Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating in 1870. He then entered into practice in Iconium, Iowa and remained there for three years, when he moved to Centerville, Iowa, being a general practitioner. He did post graduate work, at the Keokuk Medical College, Keokuk, Iowa in 1879 and at the Chicago Medical College in 1882. He was a member of the Iowa State Board of Health for fourteen years, the pension board for eight years and a member of the medical examiners for the insane for sixteen years. He was a member of the Des Moines Valley, the American Medical and the Iowa State and the Appanoose County medical associations. He was a Republican elected to the Iowa House of Representatives, serving two terms in 1881 and 1886 and two terms to the Iowa State Senate in 1892 and 1894. Senator Reynolds is a blue lodge Mason and a Mystic Shriner. He died January 8, 1902 and is buried at Oakland Cemetery at Centerville.
