Married Leta Arlene Morrison of Dow City, Iowa, Feb. 23, 1929. Three children: Ruth Ann (Mrs. Milton Barry), Marlin, Marie (Mrs. Lee McLaughlin). Mr. Nielsen owns and operates 520 acres in Shelby and Crawford Counties. A member of and has served as trustee of the United Methodist Church for several years. Was president of the Irwin Community School Board six years. Voting delegate of the Farm Bureau four years. Helped organize and was president of the Shelby County Good Roads Association. Member Masonic Lodge, Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star. Served in the 60th, 60th Extra, 61st, 62nd, and 63rd General Assemblies.

He is a member and has served as trustee of the Evangelical United Brethren Church; was five years president of the Irwin Community school board; a voting delegate of the Farm Bureau five years; helped organize and was president of the Shelby County Good Roads Association. Belongs to the Masonic Lodge, Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star. Serving first term.
