Born in 1864. Mr. Cummings began practicing law in Marshalltown in 1885. He practiced alone until 1896 when he took in Gilbert A. Mote to read the law an on the job training method of the day for preparing for admission to the bar. After being admitted to the bar in 1899, Mote practiced law with Cummings until 1915 when Cummings became an Iowa District Court Judge. Mr. Cummings represented Marshall county in the Twenty-ninth, Thirtieth and Thirty-first General Assemblies, 1902-1906.
