Senator from the Seventh district, composed of the counties of Fremont and Page, was born at Mt. Nebo, Yadkin county, North Carolina, May 10, 1861. His parents were born in the same state. He received a rural school education. He moved to Appanoose county, Iowa, in March, 1883, and from there to Seward county, Nebraska, in 1884. He returned to Iowa in 1891 and located in Shenandoah, engaging in the plumbing business and the sale of windmills and pumps. Since 1902 he has been in the contracting business, his special line being the erection of water works and the laying of paving and sewers. He was married in 1890. During the year 1894-5 he served on the city council of Shenandoah. Elected senator in 1910. A democrat in politics.
