Senator from the Twenty-fourth district, composed of Cedar and Jones counties, was born in Anamosa, Jones county, Iowa, July 7, 1867, and has spent most of his life in that city. His father Is a native of Ireland, his mother of Illinois. Received his education in the public schools and college. Served as clerk of the district court of Jones county. Has been mayor of Anamosa several terms. At present is engaged in the practice of law. Studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1896. Married in 1891 to Miss Carrie H. Lull, who died in 1896. To them were born two daughters, one who died in infancy. Elected representative from Jones county in the 27th general assembly. Elected senator in 1912. A democrat in politics.

Anamosa, Jones County, contributes two of its leading lawyers to the assembly this winter, a senator and a representative. The Hon. William D. Sheean will represent the county in the lower house. He is a native of the town in which he resides, born there July 7, 1867. He has lived all his life in his native state. Mr. Sheean is a son of the Hon. J. L. Sheean, deceased, one of the prominent men of the state. He was married to Miss Carrie H. Lull, June 14, 1891. Mrs. Sheean died February 24, 1896. There were two children, Carrie H. and Laura E., the latter now dead. Mr. Sheean is a member of the I. O. O. F., K. of P., and Modern Woodmen lodges. For so young a man his local political record is an enviable one, an evidence of his popularity and ability. He has held the offices of mayor of Anamosa and clerk of the district court of Jones county. He was elected to the position he will this winter occupy by the democrats, in a republican county that has a majority of 500 votes. He is a promising lawyer, enjoying a lucrative practice. He comes to the legislature prepared and fitted to serve his constituents ably with his professional knowledge and his knowledge of political affairs in general.
