Senator from the fiftieth district, composed of Buena Vista, Humboldt and Pocahontas counties, was born August 31, 1876, in Dayton, Wisconsin, son of P. J. and Jennie A. Shaw. Mr. Shaw moved to Iowa with parents when five years of age. He was educated at Cornell College and Drake University. He served as Pocahontas county attorney 1910-1920. He was a Trustee at Buena Vista College. He married Miss Genevieve B. Murphy on September 23, 1908. To this union there were born three sons. He was elected senator in the Forty-seventh General Assembly, 1934, then re-elected to the Forty-eighth, Forty-ninth, Fiftieth and Fifty-first General Assemblies, 1937-1947. He was a Republican in politics. Mr. Shaw died October 10, 1952, the result of a cerebral hemorrhage.
