Fort Dodge Republican 27th Senatorial District Calhoun and Webster Counties. Born September 13, 1866, at Paw Paw, Ill. Parents homesteaded in Clay county in 1871, moved to Webster county in 1877. He attended rural school, taught several years, was graduated from Highland Park college as a member of the first class. Served eight years as Webster County Superintendent of Schools, after which he formed a partnership with J. F. Monk for the purchase of Tobin college in Fort Dodge of which he was president for 30 years. Mayor of Fort Dodge ten years, president of the library board for 30 years. Owns a farm in Webster county. Married Mabel Southwick of Lake Mills, Iowa, June 29, 1899. Father of two sons, Franklin, president of Drury college, Springfield, Mo.; and Maurice, who died while a student at Grinnell college. Member of the Congregational church and Masonic bodies, including Knights Templar and the Eastern Star. Representative in the 37th, 38th, 38th extra General Assemblies and Senator in the 49th, 50th, 50th extra, 51st and 52nd General Assemblies.

He is a Congregationalist, a republican, and a member of the Masonic order.
