Winterset Republican 16th Senatorial District Adair and Madison Counties. Born at Marne, Cass county, Iowa, October 16, 1882, son of Dr. Samuel N. and Lura Sayre. Moved to St. Charles in 1883. Spent entire life up to the present in Madison county excepting eleven years. Graduated from St. Charles high school; a degree from Des Moines university and did graduate work at State university. Was a teacher and superintendent at St. Charles, Macksburg, Van Meter, Otho and Goldfield. From 1936 to 1948 county superintendent of Madison. Thirty-three years in educational work. Ten years in general merchandise business. Assessed city of Winterset in 1949. The past five years bridge inspector for Madison county. Was married to Mabel Buchanan (deceased) of St. Charles, May 10, 1905. One daughter, Fae (Mrs. Eldon Parker) and two grandsons, Lynn and Lyle. Member of Methodist church and Rotary club. Served in 55th and 56th General Assemblies.
