Madrid Republican 31st Senatorial District Boone and Story Counties. Born in Iowa in 1879, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Lucas, pioneers of Boone county. Attended public school of Madrid. Married Maude Halsey of Madrid, and is the father of four children: M. L. and R. L. Lucas, Mrs. A. K. Johnson and Mrs. J. A. White. Employed as reporter on several papers, and in 1904 became editor and publisher of The Madrid Register-News. A few years later established the Western Printing and Lithographing Co., and operated this business in the same building with the newspaper; company operates over Iowa and adjoining states, serving banks and creameries only. The business is operated as a family institution, with a son, R. L. Lucas, and a son-in-law, J. A. White, now in active management. Is past president of Iowa Press Association and has been honored with the Master-Editor plaque. Member Congregational Christian church and past master Masonic lodge. Served several terms as chairman Boone County Republican central committee and on other party organization activities. Member Madrid board of education 12 years and charter member of Lions club at Madrid. Elected to Senate in 1944 and again in 1952.
