Married Gladys Tennant. Four children: Anne Prentis Wittmann, Richard T. Prentis, Jean Prentis Reger, and Raymond E. Prentis. Veteran of World War I. Member Baptist Church, Masons, Farm Bureau, Mount Ayr Library Board, American Legion and other civic organizations. Has been a business man and interested in livestock farming for many years. Served eight years in the House of Representatives; majority floor leader in the 51st General Assembly. Elected to four terms of four years each in Iowa Senate. Has been a member and chairman of practically all committees, including Appropriations, Ways and Means, Tax Revision, Government Reorganization, Iowa Tax Study Committee and other interim committees. Chairman of Ways and Means Committee and ranking member of Appropriations in 59th General Assembly. Appointed as member of State Tax Commission, term 1961 to 1967.
