3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 321.178, subsection 1, paragraph a,
2unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2017, is amended to read as
3follows:
4An approved driver education course as programmed by the
5department shall consist of at least thirty clock hours of
6classroom instruction, of which no more than one hundred eighty
7minutes shall be provided to a student in a single day, and six
8or more clock hours of laboratory instruction of which at least
9three clock hours shall consist of street or highway driving.
10An approved driver education course shall last not less than
11three weeks, and the required clock hours of classroom and
12laboratory instruction shall be distributed in equal amounts,
13or as equal as practicable, among all weeks of the course.
14 Classroom instruction shall include all of the following:

18This bill requires approved driver education courses to
19last not less than three weeks, and requires the clock hours
20of classroom and laboratory instruction to be distributed in

22the course.
