3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 272.2, subsection 1, Code 2017, is
2amended by adding the following new paragraph:
3 NEW PARAGRAPH. c. Require the completion of one unit
4of mental health or mental wellness training as one of the
5six units required for renewal of a standard license with a
6secondary level endorsement or master educator license with a
7secondary level endorsement.
8EXPLANATION
9The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
10the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
11This bill relates to license renewal requirements for
12teachers with a secondary level endorsement. The bill directs
13the board of educational examiners to require the completion of
14one unit of mental health or mental wellness training as one of
15the six units required for renewal of a standard license with
16a secondary level endorsement or master educator license with
17a secondary level endorsement.
