4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 724.4D Limitation on employers —
2firearms and ammunition.
31. For purposes of this section, “employee” includes a
4contract employee or volunteer.
52. An employer shall not prohibit an employee from carrying,
6transporting, or possessing a firearm or ammunition, if the
7firearm and ammunition are out of sight and inside the locked
8motor vehicle of the employee on the real property comprising
9the place of employment, and if the carrying, transportation,
10or possession of the firearm or ammunition is otherwise lawful
11under the laws of this state.
12EXPLANATION
13The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
14the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
15This bill relates to the carrying, transportation, or
16possession of a firearm or ammunition in a motor vehicle at a
17place of employment.
18Under the bill, an employer shall not prohibit an employee
19from carrying, transporting, or possessing a firearm or
20ammunition, if the firearm and ammunition are out of sight
21and inside the locked motor vehicle of the employee on the
22real property comprising the place of employment, and if the
23carrying, transportation, or possession of the firearm or
24ammunition is otherwise lawful under the laws of this state.
25The bill defines “employee” to include a contract employee
26or volunteer.
