3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 282.1, Code 2017, is amended by adding
2the following new subsection:
3 NEW SUBSECTION. 3. For purposes of this section, “resident”
4shall include a child who is physically present in a district
5and is in the district for the purpose of participating in a
6regionally, state, or nationally recognized athletic league if
7the child provides the district with a written certification
8from the athletic league that the child is participating in the
9athletic league or will participate in the current or following
10school year.
11EXPLANATION
12The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
13the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
14This bill provides that a child who is physically present
15in a school district and is in the district for the purpose of
16participating in a regionally, state, or nationally recognized
17athletic league shall be considered a resident of that district
18if the child provides the district with a written certification
19from the athletic league that the child is participating in the
20athletic league or will participate in the current or following
21school year.
